FOCUS

Today as I was rocking a baby to sleep at work, I noticed that she was very focused on a specific object behind my rocking chair.

As the chair moved forward and backwards, her eyes moved side to side at the same pace.

Her position was changing, her surroundings were moving, but her eyes remained focused and glued to whatever it was she was intrigued by.

So my question for you today is...

Where is your focus?

When our focus is where it should be, things will run smoothly.

But if you allow your focus to drift it can cause major problems.

You see, whatever you focus on is, 9 times out of 10, what you will end up with.

If you focus on getting that new car/boat, big house, of even an ice cream cone...chances are you will do whatever it takes to obtain the object of your focus.

When you focus on the positive, more positive things will happen.
But when you allow yourself to focus on solely the negative aspects of life, chances are you will ONLY see the negative and not the beauty of the world around you.

A perfect example from the Bible that comes to mind is the story of Jesus walking on the water, which can be found at Matthew 14:22-33:
" Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.  After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

See, when Peter allowed his focus to drift from Jesus (where it should have been, and where ours needs to be) to the waves and storms around him, he began to sank.

I know none of you have gone out and walked on water, but I'm sure the majority of you have faced a similar scenario.

Say you are living life and everything's fine. You and God are on great terms. You pray daily. You read your Bible. You can't compliain about anything.

Then all of a sudden, a storm pops up. Something you were not expecting.
You get sick
You get in an accident
You lose your job
A family member passes away...

You have a choice to make then just like Peter, don't you?

You can chose to keep your focus on Christ believing He has a reason for what He is doing
OR
You can chose to move your focus to the trail you are experiencing and become "sucked under" just like Peter.

I know life can be scary and I know at times very confusing, but if you keep your focus on Christ you will make it through.

That Bible even says in Matthew 6:33 to "seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you."

Keep your focus where it should be, on God, and He will give you everything you need. There is no need to worry about anything. God has your back!

So just like a baby, focused on a random object behind a rocking chair, keep your eyes glued to Christ.
Don't let your focus drift. Don't let the waves take you under.

Satan will try every trick in the book to get you to look away from God.
Don't give him the satisfaction of stealing your focus.

"It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light."
