Laughter is the Best Medicine

Let's be honest life can be hard.

Sometimes everything may be going smothly and all or a sudden it just seems like everything hits us at once.

Maybe it's being laid off from a job.
Maybe it's getting a speeding ticket.
Maybe you find out that a relative is sick.
Maybe you have an important meeting coming up and it doesn't seem like you are going to get everything done in time.

You begin to stress. You begin to worry. And from that stress you begin to feel physically ill, which just causes you to stress more.

It's times like those listed above that we need to calm down and take a deep breath and LAUGH.

Somtimes we just need to do to a doctor and have him write us a prescription like in the picture. "Laugh More!"

Life is too short to be serious all the time.

The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3,
"There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven...a time to weep and a time to laugh;  a time to mourn and a time to dance..."

And trust me, when it is my time to dance....it will be your time to laugh! (I can't dance to save my life!)

Well, back to the point....
If God tells us that the is a time laugh because He knows that it is good for us!

According to care2.com laughing can:
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Increase vascular blood flow and oxygenation of the blood
  • Give a workout to the diaphragm and abdominal, respiratory, facial, leg, and back muscles
  • Reduce certain stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline
  • Increase the response of tumor- and disease-killing cells such as Gamma-interferon and T-cells
  • Defend against respiratory infections–even reducing the frequency of colds–by immunoglobulon in saliva.
  • Increase memory and learning; in a study at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, humor during instruction led to increased test scores
  • Improve alertness, creativity, and memory
While worrying (according to heathcentral.com) causes:

       • fast heartbeat
       • rapid breathing
       • shortness of breath
       • fatigue
       • headaches
       • inability to focus / short-term memory loss
       • irritability
       • muscle aches / muscle tension
       • nausea / digestive disorders
       • suppression of the immune system
       • premature coronary artery disease
       • heart attack

Now after reading both lists, you tell me which is the better medicine? Laughter or Worry?

You can worry about something all day every day, but if it's God's will...it's going to happen no matter how many sleepless nights you spend awake worrying about it. Because worry is like a rocking chair, it give you something to do but doesn't get you anywhere.

You may be thinking to yourself..."You don't know what's going on in my life. There is nothing funny about it. There is nothing to laugh about."

Well, no there may not be anythiig funny about the situation, but maybe you just need to clear your head from it and focus on something else.

Go out with a friend for coffee. Watch a YouTube video or two. Go to Walmart!

...and if all else fails, look in the mirror at the mess you have become from the stress.
Look at the bags under your eyes, the crazy hair pointing every which way and laugh at yourself.

Because I can only imagine God sitting up in heaven looking at us shaking His head (maybe even chuckling a little) while saying "Look at them! Didn't I bring them through the last valley? They prayed, I rescued them, They said they were going to give up worrying and have more faith in Me... and look what they are doing again! Do they really think that I can't handle this??" And if you don't believe God has a sense of humor, just look at some of the things He created. He was definately showing off His sense of humor when He made ME!

Life is ana sickness that will eventually will kill everyone, but laughter is like Lortab...it helps loosen us up and numbs the pain.

So the nest time you feel like stressing out, belt out a big ole LOL and relax.

It will make you a happier person and will make everyone else arounf you happier too!

“I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.”

“If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane.”

“Sometimes crying or laughing are the only options left, and laughing feels better right now.”

“I don't trust anyone who doesn't laugh.”

“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.”

“The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.”

“Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can; all of them make me laugh.”

Live...Laugh...Love
Until Next Time,
Racheal <3
